Mother Crafter, handcrafted happiness – My new blog!

June 4, 2011

I know I’ve been absent and not posting here much. You might be wondering where I’ve been all this time! I am ok. We are ok. I just was busy developing my new blog, Mother Crafter!

I created Mother Crafter to share tutorials, stimulus, fun giveaways, freebies, and information about living a design-conscious life on a low budget. And to keep me sane while staying at home. Ha!

Mother Crafter is about making stuff with our hands that makes us happy. It is about reusing and salvaging things as much as we can to make good for the planet. Mother Crafter believes you can boost happiness trough creativity.

Please go and check it out. I hope you will find creative ways to enhance your lifestyle and feel inspired by it. Enjoy!

Altered Mind

July 7, 2010

Inspired by the blog New Dress a Day, in which Marisa creates a new garment from clothes she finds at flea markets or thrift stores for only $ 1, I decided to alter a dress that I bought many years ago at the Village Discount Outlet when I lived in Chicago. I never wore it in public because I look like a monster on it.  Still, I never had the courage to donate it, because I swore I would make something out of it some day.

the monster! ugh...

And that day came! Yesterday, inspired by all of Marisa’s entries in her blog, I grabbed my scissors and started to cut and create something new.

of course, Bob always "helping"

I found a shirt that was relegated to the bottom of the drawer for being too short on me and cut it below the bust. I also cut the dress below the waist, and with the help of the serger, I joined the two pieces together.

tadá!!!

new life!

Thanks Marisa! And please do not forget to check her blog.

Needle Felting

July 13, 2008

The last time we cut Juancho’s hair, instead of putting it on the compost bin as usual, I kept it thinking I would find another good use for it. Imagine my excitement when my friend Cour called me to tell me that she took a needle felting class and wanted to show me the amazing sheep she did! And then she said she would show me how to do it. Perfect!

So we hung out one afternoon at her house with Erin and Sarah and made things, something shaped like, well, something. I did a model of Juancho out of his hair, and Cour did the same with Rudy, her doggy. She also made a squirrel to accompany him, as it turned out that Rudy is pretty obsessed with squirrels.

These are some of our creations. (click to enlarge)

I checked the web for more instruction and inspiration. I found a LOT of resources, but these are my favorites.
